Exchange

What is land exchange?

The exchange in the present context is a permutation of real estate with or without payment of a balance.

It is done by mutual agreement between the parties. It takes the form of an agreement (private deed affirmed by the Mayor or filed with the minutes of a notary).

In other words, the exchange is a contract by which the parties respectively give each other one property for another.

The practical interest of the exchange consists in avoiding two successive sales and the cost of two transfers. But this type of transaction remains rare.
